FAQ

Can you buy Gold with Robux?
No. Players confirm Gold cannot be purchased in the shop — it is earned from codes, the golden wheel, and selling mythic-or-better fish. Robux buys other shortcuts, but Gold itself is not one of them.
Do you get Gold for indexing fish in the game index?
The in-game hint says indexing fish grants Gold, but players who indexed dozens of fish — one counted 43 — received none. Treat the hint as unreliable and never index fish expecting Gold until you see it paid out yourself.
How much Gold do codes give?
GOLD redeems 300 Gold and UPGRADES redeems 500 Gold — 800 total, the largest single Gold injection available to a new player. The full list lives on our codes page.

What Gold buys in Roll a Fisherman

Gold is the special currency, and it is scarce on purpose. It pays for exactly two things:

  1. Special upgrades — Fishing Speed, Catch Luck, Mutation Luck, and Roll Luck, priced from roughly 250 Gold upward (observed values).
  2. Mutations — 100 Gold per mutation-machine roll (50 with Coral Zoey in your crew), spent on high-value fish.

Because both sinks fight for the same Gold, the core discipline is: compare before you spend. A mutation on a high-base-value fish usually beats a marginal upgrade, and vice versa — the upgrades guide covers the priority order.

Every Gold source, ranked

1. Redeem codes — 800 Gold on day one

The fastest source by far. GOLD redeems 300 Gold and UPGRADES redeems 500 Gold, and both are active as of September 2026. That is the largest single injection a new player can get, and it arrives before your first roll if you follow the codes page.

2. The golden prize wheel

The wheel’s rare tier pays Gold. Players have observed a 1% chance at roughly 50 Gold per hit — and during Mutation Surge events one player watched the golden tier jump to 5% and pay 500 Gold, stacking their balance to 2,600 Gold. These are recorded observations, not published odds. Spins themselves come from codes and progression; the beginner guide covers where early spins fit.

3. Selling mythic-or-better fish

Players measured about 4 Gold per mythic fish sold. This is why auto-sell is dangerous for late-game Gold farming — a careless bulk sale deletes 4 Gold per fish. Sell mythic+ fish deliberately, and keep one copy for the index display and potential rebirth requirements (see the rebirth guide).

The spending order that works

With Gold scarce, the community’s tested order:

  1. First 250-ish Gold: your first special upgrade that matches your current bottleneck — Catch Luck if rolls feel weak, Fishing Speed if buckets fill slowly.
  2. Reserve for mutations. Keep 100 Gold minimum banked so a high-base-value catch (a mythic Beluga at 6.35k base, for example) can be mutated the moment you land it.
  3. Mutation Luck late. It improves machine odds, but only matters once you are mutating often.

One player holding 2,600 Gold turned down “Sell for 10% more cash”, bought Catch Luck twice, and banked the rest for mutating a divine fish — the discipline in action: Gold follows the current bottleneck, not the flashiest button.

Common Gold mistakes

  • Selling mythic fish with auto-sell on. Auto-sell processes low-rarity fish fine but will eat your 4-Gold mythics. Exclude high-rarity fish or disable it during farming sessions.
  • Mutating trash fish. A 100-Gold mutation on a low-value catch is 100 Gold burned — mutations belong on high-base-value fish only, as the mutations guide explains.
  • Trusting the index hint. Covered above — verify every promised source in-game.
  • Spending on the wheel of the moment. Compare every Gold purchase against the two sinks (upgrades vs mutations) before committing.
